Of Congolese origin, Youssoupha Mabiki arrived in France at the age of 10. A gifted student, he juggled his studies with his passion for rhyme. Leaving his literary studies at university behind, he instead embraced the artistic career that seemed to be his destiny. Today, almost 35 year-old, the rapper has already forged a successful career. His first album “A Chaque Frère” was released in 2007 and featured breakout single “Ma Destinée”. He followed that up with the 2009 release of his second solo album “Sur les Chemins du Retour”. “L’Effet Papillon”, a track from the album, is now something of a French hip-hop classic. Thanks to his experience, Youssoupha has certainly matured as an artist. A world away from the gangsta rap clichés of bling and huge cars, Youssoupha is instead a politically engaged artist. After the huge success of “Noir D****”, the platinum-certified album released in 2012 – which featured the singles “On se connaît”, “Dreamin’” and “Histoires Vraies” – Youssoupha returns in 2014 with the album “Négritude”, the second volume of what he calls his black trilogy.
