James Blunt
‘I have never been a beautiful boy. Never liked the sound of my own voice. I wasn’t cool when I was in my teens, I never slept, but I did have dreams.’ – Bones
Moon Landing is the fourth album by James Blunt. It’s an album about dreams, longing, first love. About looking in the mirror and seeing the boy you were, the man you are – and learning to be comfortable with that, flaws and all. About getting back to basics and rediscovering the power of music to communicate emotion directly and honestly, without too much polish or complication.
‘There's just something romantic, old-school and lonely about the moon landings,’ he explains. ‘A nostalgic memory of something huge that we can hardly believe we once achieved, and for some sad reason, can't achieve again – like first love.’
We all think we know about James Blunt, of course. But those who’ve been off-planet, here’s a recap on the story so far. Born in an army hospital in Tidworth, Wiltshire. Educated in Harrow, then Bristol. Signed up for four years in the Army. Ended up serving six, in Canada, Kosovo and then London. Spotted playing at the South by Southwest Music Festival, signed up by Linda Perry to her new label Custard. Recorded an album, Back To Bedlam, with Tom Rockrock in LA. Released it to universal indifference. And then the third single, You’re Beautiful, came out.

The Alex:
Starsailor
For a band often lambasted as shrinking violets, Starsailor have kept some pretty loose and unexpected company since they announced their arrival in 2001 with the majestic 'Love Is Here.' Then, as 19 year olds straight out of music college in Wigan, they found themselves hurled into the world of Heavenly Recordings - a label notorious for The Social, the good times and being friends with Primal Scream, Happy Mondays and The Charlatans. It was the legendary DJ Andrew Weatherall that provided their first remix. The band might have been signed by EMI, but it was Heavenly's founder, the mercurial Jeff Barrett, that A+R'ed them through their first two wildly successful albums. Indeed, the second of those - 2004's 'Silence Is Easy' - saw them become the last band to record with production genius and careless gun user Phil Spector. Not the kind of company you suspect that their supposed peers – Snow Patrol, Keane et al - would ever keep.

Vernissage:
Cats On Trees
A girl and a boy, A piano and drums plus a mesmerizing voice, Virtuosity and energy. Cats on Trees found the perfect osmosis, the mix of rhythm and sounds that talk to your body … and soul.
Born in 2007, revealed from stage performances and a first EP spotted by specialized press, those freedom-loving felines took their time, the time to do it right. For three years, Nina and Yohan have cleverly let their project mature, testing, erasing, starting again from scratch, exploring. Not as maniac researchers but more philosophically. Enjoying every moment to make the best out of it. Real-life as raw material, everyday stories on what matters the most, real personal feelings that turn into universal; all of it grafted on an innovative framework served by drums/piano and bringing brand new emotions. Their music is a combination of essential essences in the history of music, from shamanism to romanticism, the heartbeats and the saunters of the soul.
Along the way in building the album, new perspectives and new sounds followed; such as those intense waves of strings, arranged by Albin de la Simone, which expand the topic and do sound like a genuine orchestra. But there's also another echo and width, transmitted by the work of Pierre Rougean and Jean-Christophe Urbain on acoustic guitars. Those two friends go back and forth between brilliant pop and easy listening pop, and stick to it. You either want to dance or sing along. It's sharp, it's shiny, songs you can relate to and in the end it creates new perspectives.
A rainbow of emotion, always pure, deeply touching, caressing and suddenly her voice is soaring beautifully.
Led by the inventive rhythm of Yohan, combining warmth, sweetness and conviction, Nina's voice covers a wide range of the musical landscape from Agnes Obel to Feist. A rainbow of emotion, always pure, deeply touching, caressing and suddenly her voice is soaring beautifully. It's intimate and in constant search for authenticity, the Cats On Trees depict their lives, and thus our, on a giant and more colourful canvas.

Sunnegga:
Skye plus Ross canceled - replacement: Gabrielle
We would like to congratulate Skye Edwards on the birth of her child, and are very pleased to hear that both mother and baby are doing well, despite the unexpectedly early birth. Under these circumstances, we can well understand that Skye & Ross will, unfortunately, be unable to perform their concert at the Sunnegga Sessions on the 16th April. As a worthy replacement, Gabrielle will now be travelling to Zermatt earlier, and will give a concert on the 16th April as part of the Sunnegga sessions, in addition to her sold-out concert on the 18th April. The tickets for the Sunnegga Session for the 16th April will thereby remain valid. Already purchased tickets can be refunded on request.
Dreams – with this soul-hymn of the 90s, the British singer Gabrielle celebrated her 20th anniversary of stage appearances. She was a guest at Zermatt Unplugged in 2008, and, seven years later, will grace the intimate setting of the Sunnegga Sessions, which is the ideal setting for this soul queen with the gentle and inimitable voice. She has never done anything that wasn’t right for her. Even when Prince invited her onto the stage, she decided she would only dance – but that had nothing to do with stage-fright. In the early 90s, she achieved the highest new entry in the UK Charts and won the Brit Award as a Newcomer. Rise, When A Woman, Sunshine or Out of Reach were further hits that established her fame as a soul singer.
