When you have scaled the peaks that Simple Minds conquered in the 1980s, a temporary step back from the hurly-burly of touring the world is inevitable. But when your creative desire burns as fiercely as that of Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, it is also certain you will eventually reach out again towards the glittering prizes.
The new Simple Minds album, their 16th, is called Big Music. A swaggering collection that reiterates their world-class credentials, it is the culmination of a decade of stealthy rediscovery that has seen Simple Minds make two albums, 2005's Black & White 050505 and 2009's Graffiti Soul, before reminding us all of their legacy with the acclaimed X5 boxed set and subsequent 5X5 live album and tour.
Made with an array of collaborators old and new – including co-writer Iain Cook (of Glasgow band Chvrches) and producers Steve Osborne, Andy Wright and Steve Hillage (who worked on 1981's Sons And Fascination / Sister Feelings Call) – BIG MUSIC is an irresistible mix of artistry and accessibility.

Multi Grammy Award-winning and Golden Globe nominated singer and songwriter Chris Cornell, is the frontman of three multi platinum bands and the chief architect of the grunge movement. He has written music for many films, including the Bond franchise’s Casino Royale, and Cornell’s music has been featured prominently in film, TV and video games.
Inspired by the stark arrangements of musicians like Nick Drake, Daniel Johnston and White Album-era Beatles, Cornell creates a musical universe unlike anything he has done before. Songs like the impossibly catchy “Dead Wishes” and the mandolin-driven “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” are effortless in their melodic splendor, and their tasteful arrangements reveal a new sophistication.

Together since 2010, The Slow Show had only played a few gigs before landing their first big break the following year when they were picked by BBC Introducing to support Elbow on BBC Radio 2 Live In Concert at Manchester Cathedral. That led to another breakthrough when BBC Radio 2 Dermot O’Leary’s producer heard the broadcast and asked the band to play on a session on his radio show. In turn, a European agent heard them and asked them to play some unlikely dates abroad. Thus, a band who had barely played a note in their hometown found themselves suddenly unveiling all in European cities such as Zurich and Dresden and now continue touring all over Europe to critical acclaim. 2016 sees The Slow Show explore USA and release a highly anticipated second album in the summer.
