With chansonnier Francis Cabrel, Zermatt Unplugged continues the tradition of presenting outstanding French musicians. Cabrel’s work has grown steadily in forty years. The musician has released over 20 albums with the unmistakable Southern French accent. Francis Cabrel performed with Jean-Jacques Goldman and France Gall. He composed for Patricia Kaas and wrote for Johnny Hallyday. Since the 90s, his music is gilded in Switzerland and cast in platinum. Chansons such as Petite Marie, La Corrida, and Sarbacane have been translated into other languages. With the bilingual interpretation of Je l’aime à mourir, Shakira presented a Francis Cabrel homage to the enormous audience of the Latin American world.

British singer-songwriter Tom Odell returns to the Matterhorn. In 2014 the musician performed a concert in a class of its own. Anyone who had come as a ballad fan due to the megahit Another Love, soon rubbed his eyes in wonder, because Tom Odell and his piano develop their own dynamics, not only in songwriting but also on stage. The occasion for his return to Zermatt Unplugged is Tom Odell’s latest work Jubilee Road. It is a very personal album; composed, produced and arranged by an exceptional musician who has always been distant from the hype surrounding his person.

Addicted to music. A driven late bloomer. Incredible voice. Since 2014, multi-instrumentalist Robert Laupert has played hundreds of concerts all over Europe. An invitation to South by Southwest (SXSW) in Texas led him to collaborate with Mocky, who was already refining Feist’s music. L’aupaire is inspired by Americana, folk, and pop. His voice is in the tradition of the old Blues master: It is rough yet approachable, a voice that tells stories and recalls Tom Waits. For Zermatt Unplugged, L’aupaire has expanded his instrumentation with accordion and contrabass and plays songs like The River and Flowers, stories that are heard more and more often on the radio, with his band.

Sam Shure is the latest discovery in Europe’s number one capital of electronic musik: Berlin. Influenced by the artistic work of his father, an Egyptian jazz musician, Sam Shure combines electronic sound design with jazzed oriental soundscapes. Kellerkind mixes warm, deep house and the soulful music of Chicago, which runs like a common thread through his live sets.

Winkelmatten Chapel
BRUNO BIERI & LIONIUS TREIKAUSKAS

From Silence is the essence of Bruno Bieri & Lionius Treikauskas. In the Winkelmatten chapel the musicians make the silence audible with their voice, cello, handpan, and alphorn. Their own compositions tell stories between mountain peaks and depths of valleys. They play songs with and without words, let cheerful shouts and shouts of cheer sound, inspired by wind and weather. Voices echo in the majestic sound of the Alps. From tranquility, a concert develops with power, sound, and mischief – unplugged.
